Anne & Gilbert will be appearing on three new stages this year. The PEI office that licenses productions for the show has confirmed new productions for Ontario and Nova Scotia in 2012.
Campbell Webster, President of Anne & Gilbert Incorporated, says more productions of the musical have been licensed this year than ever before. “And we are barely a quarter of the way through 2012, so I expect even more before the year is out.”
Productions are being staged by the Bravo Academy of Performing Arts in Toronto, and Kilarney Collegiate in Manitoba. In December, the Neptune Theatre School in Halifax will stage the first Nova Scotia production of Anne & Gilbert.
Earlier this year, Anne & Gilbert was licensed to the Central Stage Theatre in Washington state. Last year, Anne & Gilbert broke through in the USA with productions in Michigan, Iowa and Pennsylvania.
Anne & Gilbert is based on the sequel novels to Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery. Written by Nancy White, Jeff Hochhauser and Bob Johnston, the musical premiered in 2005 and has been in production every year since. An estimated 110,000 people have seen the show in Canada. In 2008, the Original Cast CD of Anne & Gilbert received an East Coast Music Award.
