Canada’s most famous romantic couple can be seen in PEI this summer when the hit musical Anne & Gilbert begins its 2011 production at the Harbourfront Theatre, and Islanders who buy tickets before June 1st will receive a 30% discount on certain shows.
Kieran Keller, general manager of the Summerside theatre, confirmed the musical will enjoy a prime slot in the summer schedule. “Anne & Gilbert is the centre-piece of our whole summer. We have people traveling especially to Summerside from all parts of the Canada, the US and even from overseas to see this show.”
Keller, who is also the producer of this year’s production says, “Anne & Gilbert has an international reputation for quality and for entertainment value. I’m not overstating things when I say that people who have seen the show constantly tell us that it’s the best Anne production they have ever seen.”
Anne & Gilbert is based on the sequel novels to Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery and reveals Anne as an independent-minded young woman about to start her first teaching job. Romantic complications unfold when childhood sweetheart Gilbert Blythe proposes marriage. Written by Jeff Hochhauser, Bob Johnston and Nancy White, the musical features thirteen cast members, a young people’s chorus and a live orchestra. This is the sixth consecutive year of the production in Summerside. Vector Aerospace is the presenting sponsor.
